Computer Aided Design

Design Skills

CAD.png

I have developed my engineering skills using Solidworks which helps me to efficiently create and evaluate concepts.
The articles below demonstrate some of the techniques I use.

Topology Study

For my Computer Aided Engineering module I was asked to develop a high performance bicycle crank, using methods like topology and design studies todrive much of the design process. Materials were compared using the CES database then the design study tool was used to adjust the basic dimensions of the crank. The topology study allowed for the removal of unnecessary material and then tests were conducted on this final geometry to ensure it would function correctly.

Frequency Analysis

Another CAE task was to design a chime that would perfectly reproduce a given musical note. Using more FEA tools in Solidworks I was able to determine the optimum length of the chime as well as the positioning of the node where it would be suspended from.

Exploded Views

The images below show the exploded views that have been produced for my various design projects. These are some of my favourite renders to create as they show the product in a greater depth and how all of the components fit together.

Technical Drawings

These drawings were produced as part of the Handheld Shopping Scanner project.
